I have been in this little coastal town for almost a week now and it is anything but boring! It is actually the first place that feels a bit like a home away from home.
On my second day here I wanted to go to the internet place but it was closed. Next door was a stone carving shop, and the owner started talking to me. His name is Morgan and he lived in Germany for 2 years! We got along great and he offered to teach me a bit of stone carving. Since then I spent most of my time there, hanging out with the carvers and some pretty chill other travellers. Everyone is just relaxed and super nice and I am really happy here. Morgan also made some small motorbike tours with me which is a ton of fun (but a big dangerous because there ARE no helmets).
It just feels great hanging out with some of the more “western” locals. I might get a volunteering job here and stay for another month! But nothing is sure yet, I have many options right now and want to see what feels best for me.
Hope you are all doing well! <3
Want to tell me something?
i made it to chennai, the capital of tamil nadu. it’s another big city so i don’t plan on spending a lot of time here…
when i took the taxi from the airport to my hotel i saw a dead guy (again). he had an accident with his motorcycle. him and the machine were just there in the middle of the street, cars driving past them. \\
after darjeeling i took the toy train down to siliguri (9 hrs), then i took a train to kolkata (11 hrs). it was a good train but in the morning one of the babies that was in my compartment was dead, which was pretty creepy. seriously, dead babies are not good.
anyway, i must have caught a cold in darjeeling. i ended up staying there much longer than first planned cause there were strikes and i could not leave. it was nice though, cause during my last days the sky finally cleared up.
now i am couchsurfing in the suburbs of kolkata and i have not seen much of the city yet cause i am really sick. it’s annoying. but i have a lovely host, his mom cooks for me and there is a computer with internet! NICE! now i will go back to bed with my new roll of toilet paper (sniff sniff) + chocolat cookies and watch some bizarre mexican dvds, how does that sound?
